WCAX Featuring Show house

The owners of an historic inn in Windsor are in the process of giving it a facelift, and at the same time raising cash for local charities.

Windsor is the birthplace of Vermont. Walking downtown — you’re surrounded by the past.

History yes, but Robert Dean says in the present, businesses are struggling. “We decided why don’t we put the welcome center for the show house downtown, exposing all the other wonderful merchants and restaurants,” he said.

Dean is the co-chair for a new project called the New England Living Show House. It’s a home and garden tour that starts downtown, so people get a taste of the area and businesses get a boost. “We’re believing we’ll have over 30-thousand people visit the show time offices and therefore the entire community,” Dean said.

But the big show is just up the hill, a mile away. The main attraction is the Juniper Hill Inn, built in 1901 and sitting on the highest point in Windsor. It’s catered to many famous people, including artists actors and even presidents.

“It’s really one of the only gilded age mansions in Vermont.” Dean said.

The Inn is currently being renovated and re-decorated by designers from all over the U.S. Each one has a certain part of the house they’re assigned to.

Eleanor Shepard has an interior design business in Quechee and is one of 12 designers donating their time. “My focus for my room is that everything is local,” she said.

Each room has a different feel. Some have a Presidential flair, including one where Calvin Coolidge and Teddy Roosevelt stayed. Others take a modern approach.

“It was combo of show house and living show house and thinking of the people that are actually going to be staying here,” Shepard said.

When it’s completed, people will pay 25-dollars for a tour. There will also be cooking classes and other events to draw people to the Inn.

“It’s not just about completing the interior design, but how to enjoy that,” Dean said.

While the Inn gets a facelift, local charities will also benefit from ticket sales and donations and Robert Dean has an ambitious fundraising goal of one million dollars.

Raising money and polishing up a part of the town, so this place full of history can shine.

Rooms for Dartmouth Graduation 2011

We wanted to let everyone know that we recently had a big cancellation of ten rooms for Dartmouth Graduation Weekend.  If you know of anyone seeking an inn in Hanover New Hampshire or the Woodstock Vermont region we would be delighted to put them up at our Vermont country inn.  We are only 18 miles from the center of Dartmouth College campus and because it is all highway I-91 we are closer then most every other inn in Vermont and New Hampshire.  We are planning a shuttle to spare people driving in the traffic and having to pay for the expensive parking if enough of our guests are interested.

Keep in mind that Juniper Hill Inn is serving lunch and dinner to the parties up to 40 people. Consider hosting your special graduation dinner or luncheon at Juniper Hill Inn and, weather permitting, dine in our gardens with dramatic lake and mountain views.

You can make you reservation by phone – 802-67405273 or on line were you can check the availability

All the guests will be treated to the newly re-designed rooms by some of New England’s top interior designers and one designer from California.  Luxurious bathrooms from Vintagetub.com, a company specializing in excellent quality bathroom supplies: tubs, toilets, sinks, fine hardware and the like.  This company is working with the interior designer Rose Ann Humphreyto create the bathroom adjacent to the room President Teddy Roosevelt stayed in when he use to visit the inn.  The designer from California, Gayle Lipman, will be recreating the room the President Wilson once stayed in and the others each have a special part of this historic event that you can find out about on New England Living Show House web site.  Famed Boston interior designer, Eileen Patterson of The Patterson Group, will be taking on the task of recreating Mr. and Mrs Evarts original master bedroom.  She has an inspired palette and concept for this large room with wood burning fireplace, fabulous views and exquisite appointments.

Accommodations for Dartmouth Graduation are in short supply and this will be the first time the public will be staying in the newly designed rooms since our Gala Re-Opening and Grand Design Reveal benefit event – Friday, May 27, 2011.  The evening will be hosted by the mega-award winning star of stage and screen, Cloris Leachman and Her Excellency Ambassador Maajer of the United Republic of Tanzania.  Tickets to that will be available soon!
